The first week
Swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes are common. A splint is usually worn for about a week. Keeping the head raised and avoiding strenuous activity helps.
Weeks two to six
Most visible bruising settles within two weeks, and many people return to desk work in one to two weeks. Contact sports and heavy exercise are usually avoided for several weeks; follow your surgeon's specific advice.
Months three to twelve
Subtle swelling, especially at the tip, can take up to a year to settle fully. The final shape is judged only after this.
When to seek help
Contact your surgical team promptly for heavy bleeding, increasing pain, fever, or difficulty breathing.
