Why the choice of surgeon matters

Cosmetic surgery is still surgery. The training of the person operating, the setting and the aftercare plan all affect safety.

Questions to ask at your consultation

  • What are your surgical qualifications, and are you registered with the National Medical Commission or a State Medical Council?
  • How often do you perform this specific procedure?
  • Where will the procedure take place, and what emergency support is available there?
  • Who gives the anaesthesia, and what are their qualifications?
  • What are the most common risks for someone with my health history?
  • What does recovery realistically involve, and when can I return to work?
  • What is the complete cost, including follow-up visits and any revision?
  • Who do I contact if I have a problem after hours?

Warning signs

Be careful of pressure to book on the same day, time-limited discounts, guaranteed results, or reluctance to discuss risks.

The takeaway

A good consultation leaves you better informed and under no pressure. Choosing not to proceed is always a valid outcome.
